Rising 10th-12th Graders
Important Overview
What Do I Register For?
During the registration process, you will be registering for six classes, plus alternates. These classes should include four core classes (LA, MA, SC, SS), as well as electives (CTAE, Fine Arts, Foreign Language, Health/Physical Education). Be sure to choose your alternates wisely - you will be scheduled in those classes if your first choices are not available. Please note, if you do not choose alternates, they will be selected for you.
Who Signs Me Up for Classes?
Your subject area teacher will sign you up for courses in that same subject area. This is true for both core classes and electives.
If you would like to take a class in a subject you are not currently taking, you will come to Arena Registration in the Gold Gym during your lunch on Tuesday, 1/27 and Thursday 1/29.
What Electives are Available?
The back of your registration sheet included all electives. Some are open electives - this means any student can sign up to take them. There are some electives marked with a black square - check the registration page on your student landing page for more info on these courses, or come to Arena Registration. Finally, there are some courses marked with * - these courses have a pre-requisite or you must have approval some a specific teacher. Come to Arena Registration for these.
What About Off-Campus Options?
If you are planning on taking classes through Maxwell, Grayson Tech, CLC (comparative religion), or Dual Enrollment, make a note of this on the back of your registration sheet in Step 4. Ask your guided study teacher or counselor for more info about these options.
What If I Want to Request a Change?
Brookwood does yearlong scheduling, so please carefully consider all of your choices during this registration period. If you and your parents would like to request a different course than your teacher recommended, you must complete the top section on the back of your registration sheet. This section MUST have a parent signature. Changes are not guaranteed, but they are more likely if you request them early.
You will receive your course verification sheet right before Spring Break. This is the LAST CHANCE for change requests or to fix any mistakes. You have until May 1 to submit these change requests. Again, requests are based on space and are not guaranteed.
There will not be any course changes made over the summer, during orientation, on the first day of school, or during the first week. Schedules are set at this time.
What Reasons are Not Valid to Request a Schedule Change Next Year?
- I changed my mind.
- I decided I don't want to take that class.
- I'm involved in too many extracurricular activities.
- I don't want to hurt my GPA.
- I want to change levels.
- I don't want to lose HOPE.
Course Change Requests
Student Course Verifications have now posted on the BHS Student Landing Page. Once you/your student review the courses listed, if you wish to request a change to any course(s), please fill out the Google Form linked below. You must be logged into a Gmail account to submit the form- either that of the parent/guardian, or the student's GCPS Gmail Account. This is where communication and confirmations will be sent.
If space is available in the course you are requesting and your student meets the prerequisite(s) for the course, we will make every effort to accommodate the requested change.
Change Requests will be accepted through 11:59 PM on Friday, May 1st. Approved course changes will be communicated by Wednesday, June 3rd.
Please keep in mind that this is the time for course change requests to be made, and no other opportunity will be given. NO course changes will be made after June 3rd. If submitting a Course Change Request, please read all information carefully as it serves as you/your student’s waiver in the requested course(s) if approved.
There is no need to complete the Course Change Request form if no changes are requested.
