The 12th Parent Night provides important and timely information concerning graduation requirements and post-secondary preparation strategies. To this end, counselors will provide detailed information on the following topics: ensuring students complete remaining graduation requirements, determining the best post-secondary options, completing college applications, securing recommendations, applying for scholarships, and choosing to take the SAT/ACT. In addition, information regarding Senior Year activities (e.g., senior dues, yearbook, yard signs, the graduation ceremony, etc.) will be presented.
The Freshman Sophomore Parent Night is designed to teach important success strategies for the current school year and present opportunities for the remaining school years. To achieve the first goal, counselors will detail the graduation requirements, discuss strategies for academic success, and provide course recovery options. To achieve the second goal, they will present options for students to pursue career interests (e.g., taking classes at Maxwell/Grayson Tech), engage with the school environment (e.g., joining clubs), and earn college credit (e.g., taking Dual Enrollment and AP classes) while in the high school setting.
This is a two-for-one event that provides college and financial aid information. The financial aid presentation will be the first hour of the night (i.e., from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.). During this time, a representative from the Georgia Student Finance Commission (GSFC) will present updated information regarding the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), as well as provide scholarship resources. The PROBE Fair portion of the evening will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. It will offer high school students and parents an opportunity to explore post-secondary options, including four-year universities, technical colleges, and vocational programs.
The work done in Junior Year significantly impacts the success of Senior Year. The 11th Grade Parent Night ensures successful Junior and Senior Years by detailing an abundance of IMPORTANT information for parents and students to ensure on-time graduation, get a head start on reducing college costs, make viable post-secondary choices, and build strong college applications.
College Options Night
Thursday, November 13th, 6:00-7:30 PM
College Options Now Night provides parents and students with detailed information about Advanced Placement (AP) and Dual Enrollment (DE) as options for gaining college credit in the high school setting. This event begins with a presentation from BHS personnel about each option: Advanced Placement and Dual Enrollment. Following this presentation, parents and students will have an opportunity to talk with AP teachers from BHS and Dual Enrollment college representatives from various Georgia Public Colleges.
