Driver's Ed (In-Person)
SUMMER 2025 IN-PERSON SESSION
June 2-June 6, 8:00 am - 4:00 pm
Students must have a learner's permit prior to the start of the course.
Cost: $450 - covers 30 classroom hours of instruction and 6 hours of behind-the-wheel driving. Register on My Payments Plus.
This course satisfies Georgia's Joshua Law requirement.
Driving hours will be scheduled with the instructor at the completion of the classroom portion.
Joshua's Law
Every year 1 out of every 9 licensed drivers will have a collision. In a collaborative effort to ensure that new drivers are well educated and well prepared, educators, students and parents are supporting the step-by-step experience building process in becoming safe drivers. One step of that process is driver education.
In addition to basic driving skills, students discuss the effects of alcohol and drugs on drivers, distractions while driving, assessing and managing driving risk and consequences of choices you make as a driver and passenger.
All these skills and knowledge are reinforced with the actual driving time, observations and use of simulators. Driver education is not just the business of driving a car, but how to be a safe and responsible driver that is capable of making life saving decisions.
The Gwinnett programs include:
- 30 hours of classroom instruction
- 6 hours of driving time
During the six hours of driving, the instructor documents exactly the experience each student receives on various highways, interstate, parking etc.
Driver's Ed (Online)
PART I - Class Instruction ( 30 hours)
We are offering Online Drivers Education in partnership with Costech Industries. This is a 30 hour self-paced modular course. The 30 Hours of Online Instruction that meets the requirements for Joshua's Law is now open.
-
The cost is $65.00
-
Register and pay for the online class at the link below.

Quick Tips for completing your registration:
- Have your student use a personal email instead of a school email address (school servers block our links so students may not receive the completion certificate)
- Security questions: Write down All Security Questions, also 1 word answers are easier to remember. (My favorites are: How old am I? , what is my favorite color?)
- Be sure to log out each time so the timer does not get skewed by being online all night. We must fix the timer manually to proceed.
- Be sure to watch all videos to the end. If the student clicks NEXT too often, the video will not advance.
- Clear Cache and Cookies
- Students can log in with their email address or their Username ID.
-
Upon completion, you will receive your 30-hour Class Instruction certificate directly from Costech Industries.
PART II - Driving Hours (6 hours)
Once a student completes the online class instruction, the student is eligible to register for our 6 hour Behind the Wheel Driving course with Brookwood teachers who are certified Drivers Education Teachers through the Department of Driver Services.
The Behind the Wheel (6 hours) Driving Time registration is now open on MyPaymentsPlus.
-
The cost is $385.00

It is the responsibility of the parents to provide transportation for the student to and from driving appointments. The student will be contacted by a Brookwood Driver's Ed Instructor to arrange driving dates and times.
The Community School’s liability insurance follows the car and provides the maximum coverage possible ($500,000/person/accident/property). Parents and/or guardians of students who operate a Gwinnett County Public Schools’ driver’s education vehicle may incur personal liability in some driver-at-fault accidents. Each instructor is certified by the DDS.
Brookwood Community School is licensed by the DDS in accordance with Title 43-13-1.

Summer Health & PE
BROOKWOOD COMMUNITY SCHOOL
2025 ONLINE SUMMER SCHOOL SESSION
June 2 - June 20, 2025
DIGITAL Health and PE:
- Freshman PE (Officially called Lifetime Fitness): This course is required for graduation.
- Freshman Health (Officially called Intro to Health): Also required for graduation.
- Why take the courses over the summer? Because it frees up one period, each semester, for your student to take another course they need or desire (example: athletes often take Health/PE in the summer so there will be an available period for them to take a weight training class). We offer the summer class so rising 9th graders can have a bit of flexibility in their schedule. If taken during the school year, there is zero cost. Additionally, some students stress about the PE class during the regular school year, so they prefer a digital setting.
- Parents often ask if students can do the course work from any location if they have a computer and Wi-Fi access, and the answer is YES! Exception: Monday, May 19th OR Tuesday, May 20th —mandatory orientation from 6:00-7:30PM in the Brookwood High School Commons. Be sure to dress for PE.
- Please note that student work must be completed by the end of the dates allotted for the class.
- Students need to work daily to complete the two courses: students cannot wait until the last few days and then begin working. This is a day-to-day process.
- Students must have access to a computer and the internet.
COST:
- $250 Per Course for GCPS Students, meaning a total of $500 for both classes (Taught simultaneously).
- Payment in full is required for registration to be considered complete.
- Payment can be made by check, credit card or on MyPaymentsPlus. Cash payments not accepted.
- IMPORTANT! Be very careful when making payment on MPP that you are choosing the Brookwood High School Health & PE courses for your student and not GCPS Online Campus Health/PE, or Parkview High Health/PE, etc. Registration on MPP opens 1/29/2025.
- Once class starts, no refunds are allowed.
CLASS DATES:
- June 2 – June 20 (15-day GCPS Summer Health/PE Curriculum)
- All classes are digital learning format, except for one face-to-face training for all students on Monday, May 19th, OR Tuesday, May 20th --mandatory orientation from 6:00-7:30PM at Brookwood High School. Dress in PE clothes.
WHO CAN REGISTER?
- Current Crews and Five Forks 8th graders.
- NOTE: Only students who successfully complete the 8th Grade in May will be eligible to take these courses.
HOW TO REGISTER?
- Register on MyPaymentsPlus under Community School Activities.
WHEN WILL YOU REGISTER?
- Registration begins on Wednesday, January 29, 2025.
- Registration closes on Friday, May 23rd, 2025, or once the classes are full.
NOTE: IMPORTANT! If you pay on MyPaymentsPlus, BE SURE YOU ARE CHOOSING THE CORRECT CLASS! Choose “Brookwood High School Summer PE and Health for Rising 9th Graders”. You can’t select the first Health/PE class you see because that could be the Health & PE class at Gwinnett Online Campus or Parkview, for example. You must choose the BROOKWOOD Health and PE class. If you have any trouble finding our class on MPP, please leave Mr. Cashman or Ms. Holman a message at 770-978-5064 and we will call you back.
