SAT/ACT/PSAT/NMSQT
Dear Brookwood High School Parents and Guardians,
On March 19, Brookwood will be administering two standardized tests during the school day, 7:20–11:15 a.m.
All students not testing will be in study halls. So, no instructional time will be missed by students participating in these tests. Following testing, we will be running an abbreviated class schedule for periods 4-7.
Passes will be distributed to all students in Guided Study to allow test takers to check out following testing and to allow non-test takers to check in at 11:15 a.m. after testing has concluded.
If a student is registered for both the SAT and Gwinnett Writes, the student will take the SAT on March 19, and will participate in a make-up administration for Gwinnett Writes.
Following are descriptions and guidelines for the two upcoming tests:
Thursday, March 19, 2026
SAT (All 11th Graders)
Any student officially classified as an 11th grader, based on credits earned, will be automatically registered for this FREE SAT opportunity. No action is required by parents of 11th graders. All 11th graders in attendance will be administered the SAT.
Testing is limited to 11th graders. Students in other grades who wish to take the SAT should visit the College Board website to register for a Saturday administration.
There will be NO MAKE-UP. Students absent, students arriving late, or students who fail to bring their fully charged school-issued Chromebook will be unable to participate. If these students still wish to take an SAT, they will need to register for a Saturday administration through the College Board website AT THEIR OWN EXPENSE.
The SAT does not count as a grade for any class at Brookwood. It can however be useful for college admission and scholarship purposes.
The College Board DOES NOT ALLOW students to wear SMART GLASSES while taking their assessments. Students must bring alternative eyewear.
Students participating in the SAT should review the SAT School Day Student Guide for additional information regarding procedures, expectations and practice tests. Additional practice can be found using Google’s Gemini application.
GWINNETT WRITES ASSESSMENT
(All students taking Lit and Comp I, regardless of the student’s grade level)
Students are registered for Gwinnett Writes based on their current enrollment in a class that counts for 9th grade Language Arts credit. The grade level of the student is not used to determine who participates in this assessment.
This assessment will count as 5% of the student’s Language Arts grade for the semester.
Absent students will be required to participate in a make-up opportunity for Gwinnett Writes.
Students in 9th Grade Language Arts will need to bring their fully charged, school-issued Chromebook to participate in the Gwinnett Writes Assessment.
More information about the design of the Gwinnett Writes Assessment can be found HERE.
Students will be asked to write an argumentative or expository paper after selecting one of six writing topics. We encourage you to review these topics with your student by selecting the link below. The choice of writing topics depends on the science class your student is currently taking.

Accommodations
Because the approval process can take up to seven weeks, it’s best to start well before the test date. For students with disabilities to receive accommodations on any college board test, they must apply for accommodations with College Board. This must done independently of the school. Visit: https://accommodations.collegeboard.org/ for details and to register. Deadlines are listed at this link.
PSAT/NMSQT

All students in 9th, 10th, and 11th grade are encouraged to test.

Final Exams
Final Exams May 16-21
We are implementing a new final exam makeup policy this spring. To makeup a final exam during the Exam Makeup Block, from 9:40 AM – 11:45 AM on the last day of school, the parent of the student missing the exam must contact the teacher prior to the Exam Makeup Block. Upon receiving confirmation of the absence from the parent, the teacher will issue the student a pass to participate in the Exam Makeup Block on the last day of school. It will be the student’s responsibility to pick this up from his teacher.
Students without passes for the Exam Makeup Block will be required to makeup their exam on the first day of summer, Thursday, May 22nd from 8:00 AM-11:00 AM. No transportation or meals will be provided on this day. This is the last opportunity to makeup exams before the posting of grades. Students needing to makeup finals after this date should contact the Brookwood Main Office, 770 972-7642, to arrange a makeup time over the summer. Students completing exams over the summer will not have their grades updated until we return to school in the fall.
