Orchestra Department
Brookwood Orchestra
Brookwood Orchestra consists of more than 300 students, performing in six different classes making up five ensembles: the Maroon & Gold Orchestra, Concert Strings, Symphonic Strings, Philharmonic Orchestra, and Chamber Orchestra.
The Brookwood High School Orchestra program has been enriching the lives of young string musician students since the school opened in 1981. The program provides opportunities for students to develop their musical skills, create long-lasting relationships, and have fun playing music. Membership in the Brookwood Orchestra program also allows students to pursue membership in Tri-M National Music Honors Society, unique travel experiences both domestic and abroad, and leadership opportunities through Brookwood Orchestra Leadership Team (BOLT).
All orchestra students earn the fine arts credit required for graduation. Additionally, Gwinnett County Public Schools now offers a Fine Arts Seal of Distinction for students who complete four years of fine arts course work. High achieving orchestra students have represented Brookwood High School by performing in honor orchestras in Gwinnett County, the Greater Atlanta area, and in Georgia's All-State Orchestras. Brookwood’s premier string ensemble, the Chamber Orchestra, has performed at the Georgia Music Educators Association annual conference (2009), the Southern Music Hall of Fame (2014), the New York Invitational Music Festival at Carnegie Hall (2017), at the governor’s mansion and the Kennesaw State University annual orchestra invitational, and for local organizations within our community.
